Introduction
The TDG Audio ICSUB-8 is a built-in solution that is designed to add bass enhancement to any speaker system while remaining hidden. Due to the nature of installation, the ICSUB-8 is best used in new construction or remodel as it is impractical to install into an existing ceiling or wall. It is designed to fit in the 16” space between standard North American ceiling joists.
WARNING
The ICSUB-8 Cabinet is heavy and may cause injury or damage if not properly secured in place during installation. There are brackets on either side of the cabinet. Due to the varying nature of installations, we do not include screws. We recommend using high-quality screws that are best for your installation to secure the bracket to the joist.
Test Before Drywalling
TDG Audio has a rigorous process that includes 100% QC inspection of all products. However, shipping, and other unforeseen events may sometimes cause failure of our products. As the ICSUB-8 will upon completion be behind drywall and inaccessible we recommend you test the speaker before installation.
Amplifier Considerations
The ICSUB-8 is a passive system with no crossover. It is intended to be used with a subwoofer specific amplifier. TDG Audio has subwoofer amplifiers that include the SUBAMP-500, which can power up to two subwoofers, the DA-2.1, which can also power up to 4 satellite speakers, and the VITRU amplifiers, in which channels can be configured to work as a subwoofer amplifier.
What’s Included
• Subwoofer Cabinet
• Flexible Port Tube & Elbow Flange Port Assembly
• Pre-Construction Bracket
• Speaker Grill Frame
• Flangeless Magnetic Grill
Parts You Provide
• Screws to secure the subwoofer bracket to joists or studs.
Installation & Placement Considerations
• For the best bass performance, it is best to locate the speaker grill frame near a wall or corner in the room.
• The Cabinet is designed to fit between ceiling joists that are 16” apart (on center). If you wish to use it elsewhere you will have to frame accordingly.
• The Pre-Construction Bracket must not be mounted any farther than 18” away from the Cabinet. If you have access from above after drywall this can be moved to 24” apart.
Installation Steps
1) Assemble Pre-Construction Bracket
2) Determine Placement of the Subwoofer Cabinet and Pre-Construction Bracket. Using the recommended guidelines of placing no greater than 18” apart. Make sure a 2-conductor speaker cable is pulled to the location.
3) Install Preconstruction Bracket making sure to orient the bracket in the correct manner. Mount the Woofer Cabinet making sure to securely screw the cabinet in place at all 8 bracket locations.
4) Connect the speaker wire to the Cabinet terminals. Either set of terminals can be used.
5) Attach the Flexible Port Tube Assembly to the Cabinet. Make sure the hose clamp is securely screwed in place. Once again make sure that the assembly can be pulled through the bracket opening. This will need to be done in the final step of installation when the speaker grill frame is attached. NOTE: The Elbow Flange Port comes loosely attached to the Tube Assembly. Remove it and set aside to use in final installation.
6) The Flexible Port Tube Assembly should not be allowed to freely hang from the cabinet. It is best to lay it onto the Pre-Construction Bracket and secure it with a zip tie to the bracket until it needs to be pulled through the opening after drywall is installed to attach the grill frame.
7) Install Drywall
8) From below pull the Flexible Port Tube through the opening and attach it to the Elbow Flange Port. Make sure to slide the Elbow Flange all the way onto the collar before securely fastening.
9) Push the Elbow Flange Port back into the ceiling and secure the frame by tightening the dog screws at the four locations. Place the magnetic grill over the frame.
