CONNECTIONS

Audio Inputs – If your source provides an LFE output you can use the top input marked “LFE”. If your source is a stereo output, use the appropriate L&R inputs.

Voltage Trigger – If you will be turning the amplifier on by using a voltage trigger supplied by another component connect the 12V AC or DC output to the 12V Trigger In

IR Input – The amplifier comes with a supplied IR Remote that functions through the IR window on the front of the amplifier. You may wish to still use the remote but have the amplifier hidden in a cabinet. If so, you can use an IR Receiver (not supplied) such as the Vanguard Dynamics IR-REC and plug it into the IR Input Jack.

Subwoofer Speaker Outputs – The SubAmp-500 will power up to 2 subwoofers if the total impedance does not drop below 4 Ω. For example, two 8ohm subwoofers could be used. Both subwoofer outputs deliver the same signal. It is a mono output and therefore there is no Left and Right. Connect the subwoofer speaker wires to the appropriate terminal paying close attention to polarity (+ and -).

• 3 Prong Removable Power Plug – Connect the supplied power cable to this input.

FUNCTIONS

Master Power ON/OFF – This must be turned to the ON position for the amplifier to operate in any mode; manual, auto or trigger. If the amplifier is not to be used for an extend period, please leave this switch in the off position.

Power Button – This is located on the front panel. Its operation is detailed below and is dependent upon the setting of the Power Mode Switch.

Power Mode – There is a three-position switch to choose how the amplifier will be turned on and in some cases off. Each switch position is detailed below.
• ON (left position) When this is selected the amplifier can be manually turned on and off using the power button on the front of the amplifier.
• Auto (middle position) When this is selected the amplifier will be turned on when it senses an audio signal from the RCA inputs. When the signal has stopped the amplifier will turn off after approximately 20 minutes.
• Voltage (right position) When this is selected the amplifier will turn on once it senses a 12V signal connected to the Voltage Trigger input connection. The amplifier will remain on as long as there is voltage and will turn off once the voltage is stopped.

Volume – The rotary volume control knob on the front panel is used to adjust the volume of the subwoofer(s). It is an infinite knob. The display indicates the volume level. The volume can also be raised, lowered or muted via the enclosed IR remote.

Music / Movie Mode – This EQ button is used to best match the amplifier performance to the audio content. If you will primarily be listening to music leave this in the music mode. If primary listening to movies leave it in that mode. You may also quickly adjust this setting with the included remote control.

Crossover Adjustment – Use this rotary control to set the low pass crossover point of the subwoofer. We recommend leaving it in the factory position to start and adjusting as necessary according the system requirements.

Phase Switch – This can be set to “0” degrees (In Phase) or “180” degrees (Out of Phase). The switch comes standard in the “0” position but you may increase performance by selecting “180” depending on room position and acoustics.

Voltage Selector – The SubAmp-500 is designed to operate at either 115V or 230V. If selecting for a position other than the default provided for your region please make sure you will be using the appropriate fuse as indicated.
